Molly's turn:Music Night!

For the last 11 to 12 years we, Larry and I have been host to a number of musicans, friends whom we love, who come to our house to play Old Time, Irish, and Americana music.  It is a weekly event that rejuvenates us. We find it amazing that our friends continue to come, rain or shine, to play with us regularly!!

Here are a couple of older paintings I have done, see if you can find one of my subjects in the photos above!

Larry's Holiday Cartoon Cards part II

A few days ago, I posted a batch of my Christmas/New Years cards from years gone by. I don't have printed copies of all the cards I've done but I did stumble upon some of the original artwork for a few additional cards.

Here they are:

Larry's Holiday Cartoon Cards

Every year since 1974 I've done a Christmas /New Years card.
Looking over what cards I have (unfortunately, I don't have a complete set) they are strangely autobiographical. I was never too concerned about holiday spirit and drew whatever was on my mind at the time.
Here are few of them:

Molly's dog (and one cat) portraits

One of the things I like to do most is paint animals.  For some reason I find it very relaxing! The top two images  are of our dog Homer, which was painted for the Gallery Route One annual Box Show.  The lower image is of Hazel and Douglas, the pets of our good friends Judy and John. They own the Amazing Grace Music Store in San Anselmo, (Marin Co., California) if you are ever driving on Redhill Ave near Sir Francis Drake check out the sign I painted of their dog playing a banjo-uke.

Big bucks in cartooning

I found an envelope in my mailbox containg a check. That's always nice but it was from some agency in Virginia that I didn't recognize. At first I was a little befuddled. Flipping through the paperwork, I slowly began to put it together.

It finally dawned on me that I was holding in my hand the rarest of artifacts for a has-been cartoonist---a royalty check.

Some months ago, I had signed a contract with a company granting digital use rights for work I had done some 30+ years ago in underground comix.

I was now receiving $1.23 for long ago appearances in Mondo Snarfo and Commies from Mars and as much as $3.70 for such titles as Yellow Dog and Corporate Crime Comics for a combined total of $22.19.    And they say there's no money in cartooning.

The truth of the matter is that the check brings me some good cheer and satisfaction. It indeed feels good to get paid--even a meager buck and (almost) a quarter--for past accomplishments.

Now it's Larry's turn. I did the "Jug Band" print.

Molly paints; Visually, I'm a very black and white kind of guy.

Years ago I drew cartoons for magazines, newspapers comic books and such.
Now I work as a visual arts coordinator for a community center.
These days, when I have time, I devote my creative energies to printmaking--usually linoleum block printing.

Portrait of Sam by Molly

Welcome to our new blog

As artists Larry and Molly are quite different, Larry is a printmaker and Molly  a painter.  The focus of our blog is to show our work and projects.  Larry's day job is as a visual arts coordinator.  Molly's day job is....uh..she'll get back to you on that...a bit of this and a bit of that.  Actually Molly paints portraits of both people and dogs - with a touch of surrealism.  We also love to create projects together.
