18th Annual Box Show

This year's annual Box Show began yesterday, August 5th.

The show is a fundraiser for Gallery Route One in Pt. Reyes Station.

The way it works is the gallery provides plain pine boxes to as many as 150 artists. You can pretty much do anything to it as long as elements of the original the box remains in the piece (In the past, people have taken them apart, burned them, shredded them and so on).

This year’s show is dedicated to the GRO’s late executive director, Betty Woolfolk who died last June.

Molly and I didn’t know about the dedication when we started our box but had already decided to create a piece in memory of Betty.

Here are the beginning stages:

Raw materials.

Molly painted a nice mini portrait of Betty.

I did some sketches (later to be transferred to balsa wood).

Eventually all the pieces are assembled...

The reception is tomorrow, Sunday August 7th, 3-5 pm at Gallery Route One, 11101 Highway One, in Pt. Reyes Station, California.
