Molly, a painter, decided to try her hand at a linocut for the Pressing Matters printmaking show.

She did a rough sketch of "La Cucaracha".

She transferred it to the block and cut:

The printmaking show at the San Geronimo Valley Community Center is up until the end of the month.

Larry's Minotaur print

I cut a lino block for our 4th annual Pressing Matters show.

I used  the sketch of the minotaur Molly and I used when creating our piece for the Box Show (see July 24th posting).

My plan was to do a two color plate multiplate block but I ran out of time before the exhibit deadline. So this is just the black plate.

10th Annual Roadworks Printing Festival

This last weekend we attended the 10th Annual Roadworks--a steamroller printing festival.

The event is a fundraiser for the San Francisco Center for the Book.

This year's steamroller was a classic.

Printmakers carve gigantoid block prints which are inked and then "pressed" with the steamroller right on the street.

There are printmakers selling their works at booths on the street. 

You can also tour the Center and even play around with some of the presses.

Hanging the Pressing Matters Printmakers show

Today we began the hanging of the 4th Annual Pressing Matters Printmakers Group Show at the San Geronimo Valley Community Center.

I've been stowing the work in my office as it's come in:

Molly came by today to help me hang.  There's over 20 printmakers and around 50+ pieces to be exhibited in two rooms.

 Here's what we're up against.

Several hours later we  had a "rough draft" of the exhibit up.

There will undoubtedly be some changes and probably be a lot of fine tuning in the next couple of days.

(Got to get that wall fixed)

Artists include Al Ardele, Fred Berensmeier, Geoff Bernstein, Martha Cederstrom, Danielle Fogel, Henry Frank, Zachary Gilmour, Lawrence Gilmour, Ronnie Goodman, Art Hazelwood, Johanna Herrera, Karl O. Printmaking show coming in October

As I mentioned our 4th Annual Pressing Matters Printmakers Group Show is scheduled for October.

There's going to be a lot of good stuff. More details to come.

Tobias Berardi Exhibit

For the September exhibit at the Maurice del Mue Galleries of the San Geronimo Valley Community Center we featured the work of Tobias Berardi. His work is primarily abstract material with a few exceptions such as this piece below.

An interesting footnote: Tobias incorporated an image of Molly's into the work (you'll have to click on the above art to enlarge it to really see it).   The repeating image of an elephant collaged into the work was clipped from a postcard of Molly's painting (see "Molly's Postcard" post in our blog's archives from April 27, 2013).

The month long show comes down at the end of the week.

I'm already preparing next month's 4th Annual Pressing Matters Printmakers Group Show.

Travel sketches

Earlier this summer Molly and I went on a trip to Turkey and Greece.

I didn't do much drawing but I did carry a very small sketch pad in my pocket.

Usually I drew while waiting at the airports, in line, waiting for food -and usually attempting to go undetected of course.  Most of these were quick sketches - done in a few seconds.

Molly suggested I post a few sketches here.

So...

Airports are great places to sketch because everybody sits still for extended periods of time. Most of theses drawings were done with Faber Castell PITT artist pens including a gray and black "brush" nibs.
